If you are looking for a summer (or any season) destination in Europe away from the tourist crowds, let me recommend Copenhagen. At the heart of the Baltic region, the Danish capital offers a lovely experience, blending calm, culture and discovery. With its pleasant summer climate, you will enjoy a gentle way of life that contrasts with the bustle of more southern destinations.

Copenhagen is above all a city where life is good. Calm, clean and functional, it charms with its pleasant architecture. The real appeal is the atmosphere: you feel safe, with that extra touch of Scandinavian elegance.

What to see and do

  • Nyhavn: this iconic harbour, with its colourful houses and lively cafés, is a must. Perfect for a stroll or a drink on a terrace.
  • Rosenborg Castle: an architectural gem steeped in history, surrounded by beautiful gardens.
  • The National Museum of Denmark: a fascinating journey through the country’s history.
  • A day trip to Roskilde: 30 minutes by train, the former Danish capital is well worth the trip. Its royal cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and its Viking Ship Museum will delight history lovers.

That said, Copenhagen and Denmark are not cheap destinations: restaurants and cultural activities can weigh on your budget.

Why Copenhagen?

Because it offers what few other European capitals can: a perfect blend of calm, authenticity and Scandinavian charm. So this summer, give the Baltic capital a try and discover another side of Europe.
